Netflix and chill, literally, is going on since the last few days. What with the wintry nights of December, the last thing anyone wants is to get out their homes. And as usual, there’s Netflix TV series to the rescue!
You see, the idea of romance has changed. From sharing a hot cup of chocolate together to curling up beside your partner to binge-watch a series, romance has truly evolved. And the best part is, if your partner is more interested in sleeping, you can enjoy alone! Self-partnering at its best!
But did you know that some of the best shows last year were book adaptations? I personally feel that television series do more justice to a book than movies. They run for longer times and can have more intricate imagery than movies can afford to.
Game of Thrones and The Handmaid’s Tale were some of the biggest hits last year, both book adaptations. But you will be surprised to know that these Netflix TV series are adapted from books too. Why don’t you try buying them here?
1. House of Cards
Yes! The popular House of Cards is based on a book! Actually, the show is made on a BBC show, which in turn was based on a book by Michael Dobbs. Frank Underwood is Francis Urquhart in the book. Enough said.
2. Mindhunter
Mindhunter is a disturbing series of FBI investigations and delving into the minds of criminals. If you’ve watched it, you’ll notice certain similarities to Silence of the Lambs. That is because, both of these were inspired by the book, Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by John E. Douglas. Douglas was a profiler himself and the book describes his work profiling some of USA’s worst serial killers.
3. Anne with an ‘E’
If you are a fan of the children’s novel, Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery, this 2017 series will delight you. Emmy Award-winning director, Moira Walley-Becket created this masterpiece to acquaint more people with Anne.
4. Orange is the New Black
Piper Kerman was released from federal prison in 2005 after being arrested for drug trafficking. She wrote about her experiences in Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison. Three years later, the Netflix TV series made an appearance and was an instant success.
5. 13 Reasons Why
13 Reasons Why was a YA novel by author Jay Asher. It talked about sensitive issues like mental health, depression and suicide. Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning director, Brian Yorkey picked it up and made it into a series with the same name. It was quite popular among the younger generation.
While TV series don’t do justice to the book (do they ever?), they are better than movies.
