There are so many little things that wind me up. Without the time to relax after a long day, I’m as tightly wound up as a spring in a watch. Anyone approaching me had better be careful, otherwise I could pounce on them and scratch them. Leaving them to nurse their wounds in a quiet corner of the house. This is not an ideal scenario, I know. But I simply cannot help it. I find it very difficult to unwind after a while day of tackling a toddler and a husband who is a bit worse than a toddler.
I can’t even begin to imagine how life would be for people who work outside home. Work, travel, home, housework. Phew, the list sounds astounding. How do you unwind after a whole day of running around and having to do it day after day?
How to relax after a long day
So, here we came up with a list of some awesome (and easy) things you can do after a really hard day and can get some real sleep.
Schedule in some ‘Me-time’ before bed
It can be as less as five minutes doing what YOU love to do. It might be reading a book, drinking a cup of hot cocoa, a quick bit of stretching or just sitting with your legs up. Whatever it is, put it in your day. Because if you don’t, no one is going to do it either. And trust me, you will love that time when you are all alone with the thing you love – no husband, no child, no in-laws, no pending work in the kitchen.

Put away all the screens
As difficult as it may seem, try to keep away from screens – phones, computers, TV – for at least half an hour before your sleep time. There is enough scientific evidence that screens disturb your sleep cycles. Kindles are specially designed for night time reading. Even so, put them away too. Because if not for the screen, the story might keep you awake!
Take a warm bath
A warm bath can work wonders on your body. It literally squeezes out all tension accumulated in your body throughout the day. Do you feel those angry knots on your shoulders and back? Feel them dissolving in a warm bath. Use some reenergizing body wash. End your bath with a splash of cold water to energize your cells. A good moisturizer and you are all set for bedtime.

Go out
If you feel irritated or suffocated by being cooped up in the house or office the whole day, go out for a while. You can walk or you could take a drive. Fresh air and some sights freshen you up as nothing can. A warm bath after? Sounds good!
Listen to music
Music is the universal way of getting to make you feel the way you want! You want to be happy? Put on some upbeat music. Feeling tired? Listen to calming instrumentals. Get the drift?

Let them play for a while in a low volume. You will subconsciously absorb the vibes of the music and calm down too. Listening to calm music is a good exercise to increase concentration levels in children too, as they are usually very highly strung. Try it. You won’t regret it.
Write a gratitude journal
Best way to relax after a long day is to be thankful about the day you had. Thank everyone and be grateful about everything that is happening around you! Instead of just thinking about it, you can start the gratitude journal, which can help you out on few difficult days, you can’t get through.
Meditate
Leave all worries behind before you close your eyes to sleep. Anxiety disturbs rest. Be calm. Unwind. At the end of the day, it is you who matter.
