Must watch films with your kids

Do you think of planning movie nights with your kids but confused about what you can watch with them? Either, movies are so childish, that you get bored, or they are so grown-up, that the kids sleep halfway through. Or the movies you like are full of violence/horror/adult comedy. But hold on. There are some incredible movies that all of you can watch as a family without yawning or cringing.

Some movies are made for entertaining the whole family. We draw a list of the movies you must absolutely watch with your kids. So grab the popcorn and keep the family ties strong!

Coco (2017)

This Oscar-nominated movie is the story of Miguel, a 12 year old Mexican boy. He loves music, though nobody in his family encourages it. Indeed, they are forbidden from making music. But on Die de los Muertos or Day of the Dead, he stumbles on to the Land of the Dead. There, he finds his long Dead great-great-grandfather, who was incidentally, a talented musician. With his help, Miguel discovers the family history and why music is banned in his family. A superbly knit family story with a blast of colours and melody, you and your family are sure to enjoy it!

Zootopia (2016)

“You can be anything you want in Zootopia,” says the movie, in which, overcoming all odds, a “cute” bunny from a village becomes a police officer. In the city, however, she has to face discrimination from the larger animals and overcome her own fear of foxes. As luck would have it, she is thrown together with a hustler – a fox – to solve a case of a missing otter. As both of them go about solving the case, she starts realizing that looks can lie and upbringing is greater than biology. Watch this film to see some exemplary performances, lots of LOL moments, and a lesson to accept everyone despite their differences.

Frozen (2013)

This movie is all about sisterhood, standing with family and love. Though there’s snow and ice through most of the movie, you will find your heart being surprisingly warmed. The songs are great too. In fact, we should warn you that you will be humming the tunes long after the movie is over. Join Anna and Elsa (and Kristoff) as they stumble through difficulties and find love in the end. And learn to Let It Go!

Finding Nemo (2003)

Follow a meek clownfish’s crazy journey through the great sea to find his son, Nemo. The father is helped by a forgetful Dory, who is so good that she got a whole movie dedicated to her name in 2016. This coming of age movie talks about letting go of your children, once they are old, so they can take care of themselves. It guarantees good laughs and a great time for family too.

Moana (2016)

Breaking all stereotypes of the fair little princess waiting for her Prince Charming to come and rescue her from danger, Moana is a refreshing movie about a girl who takes upon herself to deliver the heart of the goddess of her island, Te Fiti. The heart was stolen by a demigod, Maui, and now Moana must retrieve it from him and make him return it. But nothing is so easy as it seems. Their journey is full of ups and downs, but as they persevere, they find friendship in their hearts and the will to overcome all obstacles. Watch it for a brilliant performance by the “Rock” Dwayne Johnson as the shape shifting demigod, Maui.

Big Hero 6 (2014)

Disney adapted the Marvel comics created by Man of Action, and gave it a whole new twist. This movie is about Hiro Hamada, a robotics enthusiast and prodigy, and the robot his brother made, Baymax. Originally, Baymax is developed as a robotic nurse, to aid people in distress. Indeed, his cuddly design, “like a walking marshmallow”, wants us to cuddle him. But Hiro faces a loss and he enrols the help of his friends and Baymax to avenge the wrong-doer. The animation and characterization is brilliant, but Baymax stays with you long after the movie gets over.

These are some absolutely amazing movies and there are some more too. Perfect for cuddling up with your little bundles of joy and not only watching, but living, and learning, through them.

Tell us which movies you enjoy with your children. Extra points if you can watch them again and again!
