It’s a new moon night… completely dark everywhere… you are all alone on the road… and you suddenly hear someone screaming… you see a woman wearing a white saree… with her hair all open… you walk towards her to help her, and she suddenly vanishes…
Seems like a scene from a horror movie or a horror show, doesn’t it? Sometimes, facts are stranger than fiction. Have you ever had a spooky feeling when you visited a place? Have you had your share of ghost stories?
There are a few places in India which are well known because they are haunted. We bring in such places for you in today’s blog:
Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan:
Talk of the haunted places in India, and Bhangarh in Rajasthan has to be on the top of the list. So haunted is the place that the Archeological Survey of India has forbidden to visit the place after sunset and before sunrise. There are many TV shows made on this place. The paranormal meter showed infinity at this place. People hear screaming sounds, sound of bangles breaking and music from this fort. People have felt like being slapped or followed by someone here. At times there is a strange perfume coming out of the fort with lights and shadows. People say that one who enters the fort at night will never come out alive and hence the doors of the fort are closed after sunset.
There are a couple of stories about this place. One story says that a magician fell in love with the princess and tried some black magic to lure her. She soon came to know about this and didn’t fall prey to it. The magician died because of this and while dying he cast a dark spell on the place and from then onwards the place is doomed.
Kuldhara, Rajasthan:
Remember the multiple Rajasthan tourism ads that run on TV. One of them was about the haunted place in Rajasthan-Kuldhara. Kuldhara village was occupied by Paliwal Brahmins around 200 years ago. A minister of the king fell for a villager’s daughter. He threatened the villagers that they will have to pay double tax if they don’t marry the girl to him or asked them to leave the village. To protect the dignity of the daughter of the village, the entire clan left the village at night. There were about 1000 people staying there and nobody has a trace as to where they vanished! Their houses remain as is till date. Kuldhara has now turned into a tourist spot with hundreds of visitors visiting the place. But, as the sun sets, one can feel eerie in the air may be because of the empty houses.
Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad:
Are you surprised to see this place in the list? The place where thousands of movies are shot was once the battleground for Nizam. Many soldiers were buried here. There are many incidents encountered while shooting here. There is scattered food found on the sets, light blows off while shooting, light men gets a feeling as if somebody has pushed, strange Urdu words are written on the mirror, images appear in changing room, etc.
Barog Tunnel, Tunnel number 33, Shimla:
On the way from Kalka to Shimla there are many tunnels. The route is really beautiful. On tunnel number 33 of the route which is one of the longest tunnel of the route, people have heard screeching voices. The locals say that these are of the engineer Barog who committed suicide near the tunnel as he could not complete the tunnel work on time. The tunnel in itself is very dark and water from the mountains seeps into the tunnel making it creepy.
Shaniwarwada, Pune:
If you are looking for an eerie place close to our city, head straight to Shaniwarwada. The story goes that Narayanrao, the ruling Peshwa was killed treacherously by his uncle Ragunathrao and aunt Anandibai. His spirit haunts the place on full moon nights. People have heard the sounds of Kaka mala vachva (uncle save me) at night.
